Mom has known many persons researching about education and learning, but
she recently met someone whose goal is to educate children to live and play with
dogs, creating a bridge between humans and dogs. This extraordinary person's
name is the Spanish author Roberto Estévez who, with Beatriz Fernández and
Elena Álvarez-Testa, have created a project called CanCiencia.
This project is interesting because includes a tale entitled Nicolás y su hada canina (Nicholas
and her canine fairy), this story was written after Gordi bit without
consequences to Nicolás, and this was the excuse to work this handbook for best
friends.
This situation could put Gordi in the street, but instead, started this
project socio cognitive project where the goal is teaching to enjoy moments
among the species, under the belief that dogs and children can learn to play
together.
As other researchers have shown, the cognitive capabilities of dogs depend on domestication, but humans
sometimes think that we are only dogs, forgetting that our brains active
and pending, enjoys very much to learn, since adaptation to the environment is
the goal of all species on Earth.
Without adaptation, species cannot survive, but that adjustment can be
difficult for some than for others. Equal some people learn something faster
and better, there are dogs that need more time and patience.
For this reason, it is good when people have socialization initiatives,
since they are necessary between children - dogs, dog - dogs, dogs - cats,
people - people, because live is a social fact that is has not necessarily
genes, so it must have something that triggers that magic of wanting to be with
someone and know to listen the needs of
the other.
Roberto Estévez also teaches to recognize the benefits of having a dog
as a pet, for example, help to older people to walk, we remind them that food
is important, because often older adults forget to eat, but nothing like a good
barking to warn them that the tummy is empty!, we help them be pending of the environment
and some research shows that canine company relaxes the heart functions.
I believe that more is done by a healthy coexistence among species is
better, because there will be fewer friends homeless; because people buy dogs when
we are young and cute, but the loveliness implies that we have needs, not only
of food, but learning. If mom had not taught me to walk with my leash, I would
probably be a number more in the statistics of deaf dogs that die within a
year.
Nothing as finding new friends, learn together and eat carrots while mom
reads me playing with my hands. That gives me encouragement to continue
enjoying life.
